Usage tips:
The Japanese Sickle – Niwaki is a sharp, precise tool designed for complementary uses depending on the model:
- MINI (70 mm): ideal for weeding between paving stones, harvesting herbs or tender vegetables in planters and raised beds.
- HERBACEOUS (160 mm): perfect for cutting perennials, grasses and dry herbaceous plants, or tidying borders before new growth appears.
Always handle the sickle with care, making clean cuts without twisting or applying excessive force. Never cut hard materials (wire, knotted wood, plastic, stone, etc.) to avoid damaging the edge.
Maintenance:
- Clean the blade after each use with a damp cloth or a Clean Mate rust eraser to remove sap and resin.
- Dry thoroughly, then apply a thin layer of Niwaki Camellia Oil to prevent rust.
- Sharpen the blade regularly using a Niwaki #1000 grit whetstone to maintain a perfect edge.
