An alley in Paris

It all started there, in this passage of the 14th arrondissement, when three neighbours got together. Louis and Virgile, landscape architects, met Godefroy, a designer, who was looking for a way to green his balcony that would circumvent load-bearing constraints. Together, they came up with a new type of geotextile container - flexible, lightweight and portable. BACSAC was born in 2008!

A few years later, in 2011, they obtainedthe approval of the co-owners of the passage to landscape the street and set up a dozen vegetable gardens. Today, our three founders still live on the same street corner and continue to tend these green spaces with a soft touch; a mixture of shrubs, grasses, herbs, and wild species carried by the wind and the birds.

We invited photographer Élodie Villalon to capture in color film this seminal place, also symbol of the spirit that drives us: to offer urbanites a piece of land to cultivate the city 🌾.

Our shop and garden

Tucked away in a small alleyway in the 5th arrondissement of Paris - between the Pantheon and the Luxembourg gardens - a discreet BACSAC logo marks the entrance of our shop. At the back, the courtyard has been transformed into a luxurious garden from ground to roof, leading to two tiny houses. One is our office, the other the studio of designer Stefania Di Petrillo. It is in this peaceful haven that we grow BACSAC a little more each day 🌱!

Our rooftop vegetable garden

As the courtyard is rather shady, we set up our vegetable garden on the roof of our office/shop, which is accessed via a ladder! Up there, fruit trees, herbs and vegetable plants receive plenty of light all day and direct sun in the afternoon. ollas buried in the centre of the BACSACs provide diffuse watering, saving us from having to climb every day!

We are happy to welcome you from Monday to Wednesday, as well as on Thursday and Friday by appointment (+33 1 42 18 02 44)📍6 rue des fossés Saint-Jacques, 75005 Paris.
